In Mourning and Hope: Remembering Cole Brings Plenty

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Cole Brings Plenty, a cherished member of our Haskell community and a vibrant spirit among us. As we each navigate through our own sea of emotions following this loss, it’s essential to find solace and understanding in not only the company we keep but also in the practices that ground us.

In moments of grief, the Christian tradition of lament offers a pathway through which we can express our deepest sorrows, questions, and even our feelings of abandonment. Lament, as modeled in the Psalms, allows us to lay bare our hearts to God, acknowledging our pain while also holding onto hope. It is in the cries of David and the tears of Jesus that we find permission to grieve fully and openly.

If you would like some direction in your process of mourning and lamenting, we invite you to engage with a development cycle around Lament. This invitation is extended with the understanding that everyone’s journey through grief is personal and unique. Engaging in this practice can be a way to process your grief, connect more deeply with your feelings, and perhaps find a measure of comfort in the shared expressions of sorrow and hope within our community.

Hear the Word: Reflecting on Psalm 42 can be a comforting start. The raw emotion and longing captured in this Psalm resonate deeply during times of loss.

Respond: Writing your own psalm of lament can be a powerful way to personalize your journey of grief and expression. This can be a private exercise or something you choose to share with trusted friends or family.

Debrief and Interpret: Sharing your experiences and reflections with others can sometimes lead to unexpected comfort and insight, although this step is entirely at your discretion.

Expand the Influence: Consider how your journey of lament and healing can offer support to others who are also grieving. Sometimes, the most profound connections are forged in shared sorrow.

As we mourn Cole, let us remember the light and love he brought into our lives. Our community is here to support you in this time of sorrow, offering a space for collective mourning and individual reflection.

Weekly Wisdom: Bible Study Sessions at Tommany Library

We’re thrilled to announce the official schedule for our Bible study sessions for the rest of this semester: every Monday from 4-5PM at Tommany Library, unless otherwise noted. This time slot was chosen based on the valuable feedback we received from you all, ensuring that as many of us as possible can gather to learn, share, and grow in our faith together. We’re committed to making these sessions a cornerstone of our week, where our college community can come together in a spirit of fellowship and exploration of the Scriptures.

For our study, we’ll be delving into the book of Colossians, a profound epistle that offers deep insights into the supremacy of Christ and the Christian life. We’re looking forward to engaging discussions, shared insights, and the opportunity to deepen our understanding and faith together. Please remember to bring your Bibles, notebooks, pens, and any other materials you find conducive to study and note-taking. Your enthusiasm and support have been the driving force behind this initiative, and we can’t wait to embark on this spiritual journey with each of you.
