This week is full of opportunities to gather in prayer, community, and celebration! Let’s take a moment to recognize and support some incredible achievements within our Haskell family.

Celebrating Star Her Many Horses – American Indian College Fund’s 2025 Student of the Year!

We are thrilled to announce that Star Her Many Horses has been selected as Haskell Indian Nations University’s Student of the Year by the American Indian College Fund (AICF). Star is a graduating senior and an enrolled member of the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, with lineage from the Oglala Lakota, Taos Pueblo, Meskwaki, and Leech Lake Ojibwe nations.

Maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Star has actively contributed to the Haskell community by working at the Haskell Greenhouse, interning with the Douglas County Sustainability Office, and being a member of the Haskell Women’s Championship Basketball Team. She recently appeared on CNN with Coach Adam Strom to discuss the impact of federal layoffs on Haskell’s campus and the Women’s Basketball Team.

Beyond academics and athletics, Star is an accomplished women’s appliqué dancer, a talented beadwork artist, and co-founder of Oyate LLC, a platform for authentic Indigenous artwork and education. Please join us in congratulating Star on this remarkable achievement and keep her in your prayers as she continues her journey!

AIHEC Conference & Competitors

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) represents the 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) across the U.S., including Haskell. AIHEC is a vital advocate for tribal higher education, promoting academic excellence, cultural preservation, and community leadership. The AIHEC Conference brings together students from TCUs to compete in academic challenges, cultural events, and athletic competitions, fostering skill development and leadership. Let’s be praying for and cheering on our student competitors as they represent Haskell! You can learn more about AIHEC here: AIHEC Website.

If you’re interested in competing next year, start considering how you might want to represent Haskell at AIHEC! The conference includes academic competitions like knowledge bowls, STEM challenges, public speaking, and writing contests, as well as cultural and artistic events such as traditional knowledge contests, hand game tournaments, and film showcases. Athletic competitions like basketball and cross-country are held separately but still offer a great way to compete against other TCUs. Whether you’re interested in academics, culture, or sports, there’s a way for you to get involved and represent Haskell on a national stage!

Now, here’s what’s happening tomorrow (Tuesday, March 10):

🌄 Prayer Walk – 9 AM
Meet us in the Cultural Center and Museum parking lot as we walk the campus in prayer, lifting up our school, students, and community.

🍽️ Lunch at Curtis – 12 PM
Come grab lunch and hang out! A simple way to connect and enjoy a meal together.

🔥 Talking Circle – 7 PM @ Indian Avenue Baptist Church
We’ll be sharing a meal (Jersey Mike’s subs!), reflecting together, and enjoying community. Since it’s supposed to be warm, we might even get outside for a game before we start—come ready to play!

This is a great time to refocus, find encouragement, and grow together. We hope to see you at one or all of these events!

Let us know if you have any questions and we can’t wait to see you!
