Become a Relative

In our Native communities, we often say, “We’re related in ‘Indian way’.” This reflects a deep truth: kinship isn’t just about blood—it’s about shared responsibility, connection, and belonging. At HINU Fellowship, we invite you to become a relative in this sacred circle.

When you support HINU Fellowship, you’re not just donating—you’re entering into relationship. You’re standing with Native students as they explore what it means to follow Jesus in a way that honors their identity, culture, and calling. You’re helping create spaces where students can encounter Christ, grow as leaders, and carry hope back to their families and nations.

In “Indian way,” relatives show up. They pray, they give, they walk alongside. Whether you’re a monthly supporter, a prayer partner, or someone who shares our story, you’re part of this family.

Meet the Team

Colin Marshall

I have been on staff with Cru since 2012, and working with students at Haskell since 2017. A guiding verse for me when I think about ministry is 1 Thess 2:8, “We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us,” (CSB). Many times ministry begins by showing up and being present!

For too long Christians have viewed Native culture as a problem to be fixed so that indigenous peoples can be included in the family of God. My desire is that we can help students at Haskell worship the one true God, worship him rightly, and worship him in culturally informed and appropriate ways. Someone’s ethnicity and cultural background are not washed away when they become a follower of the Jesus Way, and I long for the day when we join people from every nation, tribe, people, and language to gather before the throne of the Lamb to worship Him (Rev. 7:9).

Steven Walker

I am Red Earth, an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation, as well as Comanche. A product of Tribal Colleges, I later earned an MBA, which has equipped me to invest deeply in the next generation of Native leaders. My calling is rooted in 2 Timothy 4:5, where Paul urges Timothy to “do the work of an evangelist.” That’s what I strive to do—sharing the gospel with students and walking alongside them as they grow in faith, identity, and leadership. I believe God made us in His image, which means He intentionally made me Native. My culture and people weren’t mistakes to fix, but gifts created to worship Him (Acts 17:26–27).

At Haskell, my heart is to create spaces where Native students can encounter Jesus in ways that affirm their identity and honor their culture. Whether through prayer, discipleship, or talking circles, I want them to know Jesus is for them, their people, and their traditions. It’s a sacred journey, and I count it a deep honor to walk that road with them.
